Dr. Kizza Besigye fears legislators will attempt to behave like they did when the matter of term limits came before them and go ahead to scrap age limit to allow President Yoweri Museveni to contest the 2021 Presidential elections.
The succession debate has yet returned to the table with Amelia Kyambadde and President Museveni's son in law Odrek Rwabogo agreeing it is the right time to set the ball rolling.
Dr. Besigye in an interview with NTV said: "Now the first test it was to face, it collapsed. those fellows who participated in that act, committed the highest betrayal of our country and others may well do the same again."
Below is the detailed opinion of Dr. Besigye as reproduced from the NTV interview.
I am not sure even sure whether Parliament will be even able to scrap age limits before they are over ridden by people.
You see people think things are calm. They don't know the phenomenon of calm before the storm.
The calmness anybody would want to see in Uganda is calm before the storm.
Parliament I suspect may be overplaying its hand by attempting to remove age limits.
Anybody who is thinking Mr. Museveni will be persuaded by some people talking to him, to change his ways and now give them their country, institutions and land, wealth, they are day dreamers.
What will return whatever was captured is struggle. Period.
Concept of treason is betrayal of people. Betrayal of citizens.
Citizens who made that constitution, terms limits is not something which was not even debated in the constituent assembly.
Now the first test it was to face, it collapsed. those fellows who participated in that act, committed the highest betrayal of our country and others may well do the same again.
